PWF3 - When Scaling Back Means Moving Forward: Strategic Financial and Compliance Considerations for Cutting Expenses to Support Long Term Sustainability
Session Description: In today’s rapidly changing health care environment, health centers are facing unprecedented financial pressures. Whether responding to current funding shortfalls or preparing for anticipated future cuts, leadership teams must take a hard look at how to reduce expenses and maximize revenue while staying true to the organization’s mission and the HRSA-related programmatic requirements. This may involve difficult choices, including the consolidation or closure of service sites, as well as pursuing innovative strategies such as collaborating with peer health centers to create shared service arrangement for administrative or operational functions through contractual arrangements. Each of these approaches carries significant financial and legal considerations. Leaders must weigh potential cost savings against compliance obligations under the Health Center Program, ensuring that any restructuring remains consistent with the terms of their federal award or designation. Missteps can put both financial stability and compliance at risk. In this webinar, our financial and legal experts will walk through key strategies for achieving sustainability in lean times while navigating a world of uncertainty. We will highlight practical tools for evaluating expense reductions, explore models for shared services and partnerships, and identify common pitfalls that can undermine both fiscal health and compliance . Participants will come away with a deeper understanding of how to approach these complex decisions strategically—so that when scaling back, their organizations can continue moving forward. NOTE: We intend to have a health center CEO co-present and at the time of abstract submission awaiting responses from the CEO.
Learning Objectives:
1. Evaluate strategies for site consolidation or closure while preserving access and maintaining compliance with Health Center Program requirements.
2. Explore innovative collaboration models for operational efficiency, such as shared administrative or operational service arrangements with other health centers.
