Session Description: Health center CEOs are currently facing challenges that are impacting not only heath center operations, but also their ability to thrive as leaders. Finding it difficult to manage financials issues, gaps in leadership capabilities, aging facilities, and the increase for patient demand, many CEOs are making the difficult decision to leave their positions after a few years of service. Lack of hope, despair, frustration, lack of resources (financial and workforce) are leading to burnout and a decreased desire to lead in health center spaces. How do we encourage current CEOs to keep fighting for the mission of health centers and its patients? How do we recruit the next generation of CEOs when they too are discouraged by the constant battles that seem uncontrollable and unsolvable? If health centers are going to evolve, they need innovative and passionate leaders. This session will endeavor to give air to the frustrations of many CEOs, help them understand that they are not alone, and provide some relief by way of recommended solutions from a panel that has seen and overcome many storms.

Learning Objectives:

  • The panelists will use real-time scenarios to encourage CEOs as they navigate difficult terrain with politics, finances, technology, workforce shortages, and the changing landscape of healthcare.
  • Upon completion, participants will understand the pitfalls and blind spots that may lead to exhaustion, frustration and team instability. Panelists will suggest creative initiatives to improve senior/executive team dynamics.
  • Upon completion, participants will understand the Board’s role in supporting or derailing the CEO and how to avoid behaviors that lead to derailment.
