PMG2 - Untangling CMMI: How CHCs can Partner with State and Federal Leaders to Effectively Influence Innovative Payment Models

Session Description: This program, an interactive session, will include a conversation with a former Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) administrator and a Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN) leader on the mechanisms of CMMI model design, development and implementation, and opportunities for Community Health Centers (CHCs) to partner with stakeholders to effectively influence these models. Situated in the context of forthcoming Medicaid restrictions and ongoing funding challenges that CHCs are facing, this program provides a pathway for CHC leaders to understand innovative federal models and actively advocate for these models to better center CHC priorities as a means for generating sustainable revenue.

Questions answered in the conversation will include:
How does CMMI work? How do ideas become models, and how are these models evaluated? How do model components translate into flagship programs like the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP)?
How can state and local partners collaborate with CMS leadership to ensure innovative payment models incorporate the CHC perspective?
